My bear from Kate and Ben!
My bear from Kate and Ben!

I'm the busiest ³ÉÈË¿ìÊÖ bear in Birmingham!

By Busy Bear. aka. Tess Langley
I don’t even know which week it is now, it feels like I’ve been here forever, but at the same time only just got here. There’s so much more I want to do but it’s all over next week and soon I’ll be going back to uni for my final year... AAAGGGHHHH!!!

I’ve been so busy since my last diary entry, (I know I say that every time I do these things, and I can assure you I’m not just saying that to make me look really cool and important, I actually haven’t had time to breathe!).

Brumcast

A few weeks ago I met up with Chris Downing, a local music fanatic who’s set up his own podcast on Myspace featuring the best of this wonderful city’s bands and artists. It was really cool to meet him; he loves his music and is obviously very passionate about what he does.

And anyway, I’m not one to turn down a free weekly injection of unheard local music, especially seeing as I’m a poor student and all of my music is already on my computer at the moment, so it makes sense to add to my collection.

Islamic graffiti and reality rapping

I spoke to an Islamic graffiti artist too, Mohammed Ali. He was really cool; talking to him was a breath of fresh air: it’s not every day you talk to a graffiti artist who does things differently.

The next article I did was on a local female rapper, LGTee. She’s wicked, absolutely hilarious and knows what she wants in life. She took me out for lunch last week, which was ever so nice of her; I was very much appreciative of her kindness. Yes indeed.

It’s nice to meet so many determined people doing things for themselves, I never knew Brum had so much hidden talent!

Thankyou Madam

Stars of the show

I took my boyfriend along with me to see a youth production of The West Side Story as well, which was proper cool. I haven’t been to the theatre in ages, not since me and my housemates went to the Reduced Shakespeare Company do the whole of Shakespeare’s plays in one night’s performance. (I’m not really an avid Shakespeare fan but that was absolutely hilarious!).

The West Side Story production was really good, and me and Sam took great pleasure in getting called ‘Sir’ and ‘Madam’ at the bar, and mingling with the stars of the show in the VIP area. I told you I was important!

Festivals and clothes designers

I went to B91, a rather special little festival in Solihull as well. Unfortunately I could only stay for one night but it was so good and the atmosphere was amazing, I’ll definitely be going again next year.

And last but not least, I met up with Kate Seagroatt and her husband Ben, they have their own alternative clothing company online. I’ve bought a few really cool things from them in the past and so it was good to meet the girl behind the designs.

They liked the article so much they sent me a little teddy bear in the post to say thankyou! How cool is that?! Thanks guys, he'll join the rest of my stupidly big collection of teddy bears at home. Yey!

Whoever thought someone could go from engineering to clothes design? That kind of transition gives me faith… it’s never too late to change your mind and do what you want.

TV star in the making

Ooh and how could I forget? My film on the Brum punk scene was in the first programme of Blast Friday! series, which was amazingly brilliant and wonderful! It was a bit cheesy though, thinking about it. And for that I do apologise. But I have a fetish for cheese so what can I do?

Well, that was my incredibly busy few weeks, this week I’m taking it easy and planning the last couple of features. I can’t believe it’s nearly all over! Looking forward to getting the whole Blast crew together on Friday though, here in Brum.

Oh, and one more thing to add… me and Soph just heard that Greg Rusedski was in reception downstairs so we ran down to catch a glimpse. What a beautiful man!
