Happy New Year of the Rooster Birmingham's Chinese New Year was celebrated on Sunday 13 February, at the Arcadian Centre, Hurst Street in Birmingham's Chinese Quarter. Year of the RoosterThe Year of the Rooster was welcomed in with a bang as听 firecrackers and a Chinese dragon dance kicked off the celebrations. Chinese lion dance Family day outThe free event was a great family day out with colourful, extravagant costumes and fantastic performances including a lion dance, traditional cultural dances, Cantonese opera and martial arts. Come together and celebrateCouncillor John Alden, Cabinet Member for Leisure, Sport and Culture said: "This afternoon of free family entertainment gives a chance for everyone to come together and celebrate the start of the Chinese New Year. The event is part of a year long calendar of community events supported by Birmingham City Council."
