Frontman Jonathan Elmore writes: For me this band is an outlet for emotions that normally wouldn't be given the chance to surface.Ìý It's like therapy, a chance to sing about things that are hard to say.Ìý

We're not trying to do anything groundbreaking, we write honest songs with melodic pop hooks & rock out with guitars when it feels right.Ìý Fashions come and go but the best songs are usually simple, easy to relate to and can stand the test of time.Ìý If we could ever come anywhere close to writing songs that meant something to just a few people then we'd have achieved everything. The Idol Machine formed in 2001 and began to rehearse regularly and started gigging in early 2003 under the name of Indigo Mood. Shortly after this we entered one of our songs, ‘Beyond My Reach,’ into a ‘band search’ competition run by a local radio station and were surprised when they informed us we had been shortlisted to the final six out of 200 entrants. We were invited to play at the Fez Club in Reading where we eventually came third out of the final six and won the opportunity to play in front of the Queen at Bisham Abbey. Unfortunately she left before any of the bands came on, but the stage was huge and the weather was nice! In the latter part of 2002 we recruited Matt as bassist, after he posted an advert on local website Josaka , and I moved over onto guitar. We decided that the name Indigo Mood sounded a bit too much like a jazz band, so we renamed ourselves The Idol Machine. Between us we have a broad range of musical influences which include The Cure, The Stone Roses, U2, Dream Theater, Silverchair, Marillion, Radiohead, INXS, Duran Duran, Cheap Trick, Pink Floyd, Muse, Maximilian Hecker (the list goes on!). |
