The ³ÉÈË¿ìÊÖ has a particular duty to do everything we can to minimise our impact on the environment and we are following the science-based targets set out in the ³ÉÈË¿ìÊÖ Net Zero Strategy to achieve net zero in our direct operations by 2030.
Everyone working on Radio 1’s Big Weekend – including ³ÉÈË¿ìÊÖ staff and presenters, event contributors, and contractors – are requested to follow our Sustainability Policy, to reduce our environmental impact. In keeping with our aims, we ask all ticketholders to consider taking steps to contribute to a more sustainable event. There are lots of ways you can contribute:
Travel
Travel emissions often make up the largest proportion of an event’s carbon footprint. To reduce this, we will have no general public car parking on-site, and instead ask our audience to make use of low-carbon travel options such as trains or buses.
Food
We are working with our food vendors to reduce the carbon footprint of the food we serve. All food on our menus will be carbon-calculated to allow you to make sustainable choices on what you eat.
Plastic
To reduce our use of plastic, the event operates a ban on single-use plastic, instead making use of alternatives including compostable serveware. You can help by bringing a reusable bottle to refill for free at one of our water points.
Recycling
We aim to recycle as much as possible and will have separate bins for recycling, food waste and general waste. Using the correct bins helps us to significantly improve our recycling rates. While we discourage the use of vapes, please ensure you dispose of any vapes in the dedicated vape bins provided.
Thank you for helping us to improve our impact on the environment at ³ÉÈË¿ìÊÖ Radio 1’s Big Weekend.
