This cricket bat is probably willow and is thought to have been made int eh 140's in England. It has been signed by the National Cricket and football star Dennis Compton who was at his peak in 1947. It was found in the eaves of a house near Launceston about the year 2000, by a master thatcher Chris Robinson who now owns it. The house had last been rethatched in the 1950's and it's history or why it was in the eaves is unknown. thatchers often find lucky charms or old newspapers as there is a lot of superstition around re roofing and 'blessing of roof'.
