The father of the contributor was Polish and part of the RAF Polish bomber squadron. They had to swear allegiance to the King when they signed up. He got this badge when he became a member of the Caterpillar Club, who were a group of people who'd been saved by a parachute after jumping from a plane. The contributor's father had been rather cavalier and had rarely taken a parachute with him. On this day, he was getting into his plane when a friend threw him a parachute. He held onto it and it ended up saving his life.
