This is a key from a storehouse of the East India Company. The warehouse or storehouse was used for the storage of tea crates in a small hill station in the south of India in a place called Kotagiri where the Warwick Tea Estate was based.
The key dates from the days of the first shipments of tea from India to Britain. At that time the tea storage was controlled by the Raj together with the East India Company.
In the 1900s the estates were handed over to the Indian administrators. One of the grandsons of the managers, is still the manager of the estates. He gave this key to my wife and I as a present when we were there on a recent holiday.
