My object is a painting called Travelling Women by Nellie Marks Nakamarra. It is an Australian Aboriginal painting.
My object is set around thousands of years ago in the tribe of Nellie's Ancestors. Only quite recently aboriginal artists have worked on canvas before that their art was used to communicate to their people. As you can see from the painting the women are travelling together and as a community. The dots in the painting are the women travelling to collect food and water for their families and other people in their tribe. The ochre colours used are traditional to Nellie's people as is the painting technique used. The dot painting technique suits this painting because it creates a sense of movement and the women in the painting are travelling, like their names suggests. The painting technique used is dot painting and is traditional to aboriginal but popular all around the world.
