My father found this object as a small boy.He was playing with friends near his home,a small hamlet of a few houses and a farm, called Pennytown which is near Somercotes in Derbyshire.Kicking the dirt,he spotted what he thought was a button. On closer inspection it was a coin.He took it to school to ask the teachers what they thought it may be.One arranged for a historian friend to take a look.He was told it was Ancient Greek in origin,Minted in Syracuse in around 330BC.It has Pegasus, the winged horse on one side and Alexander The Great on the reverse.
i inherited the coin on my father's death and it still holds a fascination for me,not just because of it's age but what it was doing in a tiny hamlet in Derbyshire !
