This mourning ring dates from 1797. It shows the six pointed star. This has been associated with Judaism since the early 19th century, but before that was linked to Freemasonry usage. Mourning and memorial rings have been popular since antiquity, but gained common currency in 13th century, where they often featured symbols of mortality such as skulls or hourglasses. This ring belonged to the contributor's grandmother.
