This doll has been made in the likeness of Shirley Temple, the American child film star from the 1930s. This shows how enduring an icon Ms Temple is, and how children's toys continue to be made in the likeness of stars - an earlier version of today's Spice Doll and David Beckham dolls. Celebrity dolls date from the 1840s, when dolls were produced to resemble ballerinas and military heroes from the time. This doll was contributed to the site by the owners of the Snaith Toy Museum.
