The contributor's grandfather was in business in Hong Kong and this tray was presented to him to represent 'business friendship' in 1921. He was a purchasing manager for a group of hotels. He returned to the UK in 1937. In the first half of the 20th century, Hong Kong was a free port and a commercial hub for the British Empire.
