Honiton lace has been made in the Devon town of Honiton for hundreds of years. The traditional lace can only be made with Honiton lace bobbins which have a pointed end. These bobbins are likely to have been made in Devon around 1980. Doreen had them painted in the trqditional way to celebrate Honiton Lace Day.
Lace making was a time consuming and laborious way to make a living and some women would make a piece so they could barter it for bread. Now it is a country craft and hobby.
