This is a wooden measure and was used to measure out a quarter of grain. This belonged to contributor's great grandparents who hailed from Wenlock in Shropshire. It dates from Edwardian era. A quart is equivalent to 2 pints and refers to a quarter of a gallon - no litres in those days.
