Mayo Composite Aircraft

This was made in die cast metal by Dinky (the company was owned by Meccano), and shows one plane riding on the back of another. It was made at the Hornby factory in Liverpool, run by the toy producer and visionary, Frank Hornby. The short Mayo Composite was a long range seaplane / flying boat combination produced by the Short Borther to provide reliable transportation between the British Empire and the US. The first flight was in 1937.
