This shows the William Wilberforce statue that still stands at Whitefriargate in Hull. The church in view has since been demolished. This jug shows a pride in the achievements of a local man - William Wilberforce - and the expansion of the souvenir industry during the 19th century, when the spread of the railway made travel easier and the resorts of Britain more accessible. William Wilberforce, along with Thomas Clarkson, were instrumental in the abolition of the slave trade.
