The outbreak of WWII caused the ³ÉÈË¿ìÊÖ service to be suspended in September 1939, resuming from Alexandra Palace in 1946. The 1950's saw an increase on the sales of televisions and a diverse number of programs such as the general election results, 'Children's Newsreel', 'Come Dancing', the Funeral of King George VI, The Budget, The Coronation of Queen Elizabeth II and the World Cup (Jules Rimet Trophy) from Switzerland via Eurovision. By the mid 1950's the ³ÉÈË¿ìÊÖ had competition from commercial companies such as ATV, ABC Production, Granada, ITN and Rediffusion. This copy of the 1957 'First TV Quiz Book' printed by The Literary Press in Glasgow reflects the popularity the medium was gaining and the knowledge it could impart to the viewer.
