These were dug up when excavating our back garden for a redesign - the garden has been part of the former pub we live in since at least 1600 (recorded as such) the local people in the know reckon these are deliberately shaped bowl and jack for playing the ancient game of bowls - like the contemporary Sir Francis Drake but cheap and pub based...
who knows for sure - but the game playing culture has come down through the ages that's for sure. In recent times the last landlady of this as a pub before it closed would only allow the playing of traditional bar games of Gloucestershire.
