This dates from 1880 and hails from Austria. It was presented to the mother of the contributor's mother in law earlier in the 20th century. It's an elaborate design, featuring floral relief in grey and blue.
Art Nouveau flourished between 1880s and 1910. The movement attempted to break down barriers between fine and applied arts, and use modern production methods to objects of everyday, as well as specialised, use. Typical subjects are lavish birds and flowers.
