This truncheon is from Bishopsgate in Devon and dates from before 130. However, the police force wasn't established until 1840. Instead, someone in the village would have been appointed the 'keeper of the peace' and would have then been armed with this truncheon. It is marked as No.2, so there may have been more than one 'keeper of the peace' in the village.
