In Bath's 18th century heyday aristocratic members of the royal court were frequent visitors to the city, attracted by the regular presence of members of the royal family. This dress dates to the period of foundation of the Assembly Rooms in the 1770s, a building dedicated to the pursuit of pleasure by the rich, where it can now be seen in the Fashion Museum.
