This Cornish Wrestling Championship Trophy was won in South Africa in Randfontein. Transvaal by William Charles Pearce who was awarded the Military Medal in WW1. William was born in 1878/9 into a Newlyn fishing family of two girls and five boys. William nicknamed 'Bergie' played Rugby Football for Newlyn. He didn't take up wrestling until he went to South Africa to join his brothers in a Cornish Mining Community in Transvaal. He applied his skills of carpentry and rope making in the mining industry. He learned the art of Cornish wrestling eventually beating his trainer. At the age of 35 he became the victorious South African Champion. Sadly he died in WW1 and never became Champion of Cornwall which he could so easily have become.

My Grand Father - Bogo Gregor was a Cornish Wrestling Champion in Randfontein, South Africa and we have a few of his cups which we would like to donate to the Cornish Wrestling Association - can you please send me the name or address of who we should contact.
