Should knives mean jail for kids?

Should 16-year-olds caught packing a blade be automatically prosecuted? At the moment they usually get cautioned.
Police could get more powers to stop and search suspects if Gordon Brown has his way.

He's talked to senior police officers about making the law tougher for under-18s in England and Wales.

This comes just a week after a £3m anti-knife ad campaign was also launched by the government.
Is prosecuting 16-year-olds a good idea? Or just criminalising young people? What should be done with under 16s carrying knives? Are you a teen, youth worker or parent who's seen it with your own eyes?

As a Canadian tourist who recently lost his knife after turning it over at a London Eye checkpoint, I think more should be done to inform people of UK laws and that criminalization of people who might not even know they've committed an offence wouldn't solve the problem.
